3 Tips To Help You Stop Snoring

Health & Medical Blog

Is your loved one at their wit's end because you just can't seem to stop snoring? If you are keeping people up at night with your loud hibernation, you should know the situation is not completely hopeless. There are a variety of proven methods you can try to quiet down while you're getting your beauty sleep. Here are three tips that may help you stop snoring.

Don't Sleep on Your Back

Sleeping on your back is a pretty common cause of snoring. This is because this position makes it easy for your tongue to fall back into the back of your throat. This is what can often cause the vibration that leads to snoring. Of course, trying to sleep in a different position will take some getting used to, but it will be worth it in the end. For starters, try sleeping on your side, with the aid of a body pillow if you need one.

Stop Drinking

If people tell you that you only snore after getting drunk, there's one obvious fix: take it easy on the alcohol. The reason drinking alcohol can make you snore is because it will relax those same muscles in the back of your throat that your tongue can brush up against when you sleep on your back.

Use Nasal Strips

If you believe the snoring is starting in your nose and not in your throat, you can try and use a nasal strip that will keep your passages open. Nasal strips don't work for everyone but if you've tried changing your position and you're not drinking alcohol before bed, this is the next option you should consider trying. You can get nasal strips over the counter but there are some stronger ones available with a prescription from your doctor.

Contact a Doctor for Sleep Apnea If Needed

If you've tried everything you can think of to stop snoring and you just can't put an end to the situation, you might be suffering from sleep apnea. This is a breathing obstruction that only a doctor's professional snoring treatments will be able to fix.

If you have recently started snoring and you don't know why, you can attempt to fix the problem by changing your sleeping position and by being careful about what you drink before you go to bed. If the snoring is coming from your nose, nasal strips might do the trick. If none of these options work, it's time to reach out to a doctor for professional snoring treatments today.
